Livesley, Powell and Co. give us an unusual combination of polychrome transfer botanical groups and lustre detail.  One side of the jug features two blossoms in a brilliant buttery  yellow and mauve pink with green foliage.  On the reverse, a prominent spray of pink foxglove with other blossoms in blue and yellow provides the complementary study

The body of this jug is a very clean white ironstone which creates a fresh, crisp ground for the botanical groups.  A network of molded oak leaves and branches issuing from the tree trunk handle, frames the botanical studies.  This molded detail and the handle are all highlighted in lustre. An additional  lustre border accents the profile of the rim.   

According to Geoffrey Godden and Michael Gibson in Collecting Lustreware, this partnership ran from 1851 to 1865 being succeeded by Powell & Bishop.  In addition to this botanical decorated jug, the firm also produced a selection of polychrome enameled transferware patterns, including the "Paradise" pattern currently listed among Seekers offerings.
