Wedgwood adopts Chinese form--without the distraction of surface decoration--in this unusually austere teapot. The purity of Chinese inspiration extends to the deep flange construction of the lid, not typically found on British pots.

At a recent antique show, a visitor to our booth asked why we had displayed a Chinese teapot in the midst of our Wedgwood!

The term "rosso antico" was used by Josiah Wedgwood I to designate his red stoneware. Later generations--who were actually responsible for the bulk of this type of production--adopted the more generic term "red body." Perhaps because of the more romantic Mediterranean sound, the ware is almost universally known as "rosso antico" in today's marketplace.
