While the potter of this raised letter alphabet plate remains anonymous, the celebrity portrayed in the black transfer center portrait could enjoy no such luxury.  The portrait commemorates the wedding of Edward (Bertie), Prince of  Wales to Alexandra, Princess of Denmark in 1863.  The prince's portrait is accompanied by a floral arrangement prominently displaying the shamrocks, thistles and roses emblematic of the unified peoples of  Britain.  At the foot of the portrait, the three feathers associated with the Prince of Wales add a final identifying touch.  

While one finds commemorative wares in varying levels of quality, the potting here is even and well executed, with a good medium weight blank, letters well molded, and no stray bits of kiln debris or spots of ink  -- as is often found in "cheap and cheerful" products intended for the masses.   

A variety of commemorative wares were produced for this royal wedding including cider mugs, loving cups and even a jug showing the Prince on one side and Alexandra on the reverse.  We have also seen a joint portrait with the Prince's feathers.  Given the dress and other details, all seem to have come form the same official series as this single portrait of the Prince.
