Brownhills, having depicted Crusoe's discovery of the footprint in another plate, now presents the encounter of Crusoe and a subservient Friday. The scene is offered on Brownhills' largest alphabet series size, eight inches. It is executed in brown transfer on a contrasting ivory body with highlights in blue, green and yellow. In the story, Crusoe has assisted Friday's escape from cannibals -- who Brownhills has thoughtfully included in little boats in the water across the background. As with each scene in the series, the border is decorated with a simple alphabet.
