In this large brown transfer "Swiss Scenery" platter, Joseph Stubbs wraps the center scene in a delicate floral crescent. The scene focuses on an elaborate chalet at the edge of an Alpine lake. A second building, possibly a chapel appears on the distant shore. Stubbs finishes the pattern with a floral border, echoing the floral crescent of the center scene while underscoring the scalloped edge of the blank.

"Swiss Scenery" by Joseph Stubbs (1822-1835) belongs to a group of Alpine patterns mostly focusing on an elaborate chalet surrounded with mountain scenery. Other examples include Minton's "Genevese", Wood's "Swiss" and Stevenson's "Swiss".

We have owned platters bearing the same printed mark and also impressed STUBBS. This seems a sure attribution though some sources credit Swift.
