Prince Bertie, as Victoria's eldest son and heir was known (later Edward VII), is shown riding a fine fat pony in a detailed brown transfer print. His riding outfit--note he is not yet in breeches--is complete with a touch of royal ermine. In the background we can see attending groomsmen and on the right the familiar tower of Windsor Castle. With the benefit of historical perspective it is difficult not to smirk a bit at the declaration of Prince Bertie--later to establish himself as an international playboy--as "England's Hope."
