In line with the Neoclassical mania of the time, some unknown potter brings a sense of architecture into the design of this impressive feldspathic tall pot. The overall shape of the pot is ovoid with an almost severe program of decoration. The decoration centers on architectural contrast between the reeded and flat, unadorned planes. Teal green enamel is used throughout to outline the architectural elements. While overall the design is somewhat severe, the potter has made two concessions to the frivolous, one in the elaborate handle with the curl terminating each component and the second in the floral (yet still very Neoclassical) knop of the lid. Large tall pots are uncommon in the world of feldspathic tea wares and this example ranges somewhere between the impressive and the monumental.

Miller and Berthoud in AN ANTHOLOGY OF BRITISH TEAPOTS, Micawber Publications, Great Britain, 1985 show similar pattern teapots in lustre, basalt and white stoneware (Plates 727, 729, 731 and 747, Page 122 and 125). Given this wide range of types of ceramics, we assume as we pursue our anonymous potter, we are looking for someone with the capability (and capacity) for fairly extensive offerings.
