The basic form of this piece--a simple cylinder set off by shapely curved handles--occurs in three variations: the one handled mug, the two handled loving cup, and the three handled tyg. Here the paired handles define front and back fields for sprig decoration, the three Graces in their traditional pose, and the goddess Aurora setting out in her chariot to open the eastern gates of dawn.
The design is simple and well scaled to the piece -- no need for additional borders at the top or base.
