Wedgwood offers this simple diamond shape tray in crimson jasper dip, enhanced with only a center figure and a laurel border around the flange.

This piece seems to have been part of a larger group of wares designed to capitalize on the great interest in card games at the time.  Perhaps, as a tongue-in-cheek gesture or perhaps a nod to the playful spirit of a game of cards, the Wedgwood potters have chosen to depict Thalia, the muse of comedy as the center subject.  

This interesting diamond shape pin tray was likely part of a set of four similar pieces representing the suites in a deck of cards -- diamonds, hearts, clubs, and spades. These were perfect individual nut or candy dishes for a foursome of bridge. Whether in crimson or other jasper colors, intact sets of four are seldom found.
