A slightly recessed band around the main part of the body of this creamer provides space for a dense frieze of five cupid groups, each separated by trellis devices.  The reliefs come from Wedgwood's collection of cupids engaged in various activities, including -- under the spout -- the less common "Cupid Market" which derives from a Pompeiian source.

The cane ware body is lightly glazed creating a warm, creamy color perfectly complemented with Wedgwood's sky blue sprigwork. 

The sprig decoration on glazed cane ware may have posed some challenges for Wedgwood as we only recollect a few complex figural sprig groups on the glazed examples we have owned.  A  closer look at this piece reveals the difficulties glazing must have presented in retaining the minute relief detail. Given the success of this piece -- and  its novel charm -- we feel fortunate it passed muster.
