Wedgwood's Rosso Antico body takes on various decorative identities ranging from Classical to Egyptian depending upon the sprig treatment.  The combination of the brown-black stoneware, specially formulated for the Rosso Antico body, creates a sense of the warm, exotic lands around the Mediterranean.  To our eye at least, fine Spanish ironwork is recalled in the delicate floral arabesque pattern which circles the top half of this compact, round shape. 

At this period, Wedgwood executed many designs in multiple body and sprig combinations.  The example of this teapot in glazed cane ware with green relief is included above for comparison. (photo from the Seekers Antiques archive).
