The creamy white color of Worcester's soft paste porcelain provides the perfect note of softness for the series of blue transfers decorating this shell-molded scalloped salad bowl.  The printed pattern is arranged around a central group of two pinecones, a peony and a pomegranate. Alternating groups of floral sprays and fruit are arranged to correspond with the molded shell detail of the blank. Appropriately Worcester finishes the exterior vegetable arrangements, stray bits of fruit, and the occasional butterfly or moth--even including a lovable snail in one study.

Geoffrey Godden in Godden's Guide to English Blue and White Porcelain (pp 396-404) discusses and illustrates the "Pine Cone" pattern along with Worcester's "Fence" and "Three Flowers." He points out that among Worcester porcelain patterns, they serve well to form the focus of a collection.
