Wedgwood's fine bone china body is used in this gilt detailed gadroon edge blank. The flange decoration is an aesthetic scale ground pattern creating the impression of fishnet. Set just off center, a "pickerel" peers out from the clear blue depths.

The fish study on this plate is executed by artist John Hugh Plant. Plant is listed in Robin Reilly's "Wedgwood, The New Illustrated Dictionary" as having worked at Etruria c.1890-1902 after which he worked at the Coalport and Doulton factories.
