What a wonderful example of Masons "Mogul" pattern this dessert tray provides. The scene is printed in black transfer and finished with heavy hand-applied enamels in shades of yellow, pink, green and a wonderful deep slate blue.Typical of this rimmed form, there is a slight raised panel in the center.
The scene depicts the "Mogul" taking tea in the garden. An exotic nearby table sports an elaborate vase and flowers -- executed in deep blue with yellow, pink and green florals. The "Mogul" is attended by a servant with pink sunshade and a confidante -- with whom he converses. In the background we note pine trees and a distant palace complex.
This tableau is framed in a deep blue cell pattern border. A second outer border of delicate pink, green, blue and coral florals and pomegranates decorates the rim, while the outer edge is printed with another deep blue band of stylized cloud pattern. Touches of gilt highlight molded detail on each side and end.
