This large platter in Ridgway's "Asiatic Plants" pattern is executed in a rich brown transfer.  A border of finely scaled, patchwork ground patterns -- suggestive of bandana textile patterns --  complements the fine scallop detail of this medium weight platter.  A single large floral spray -- boldly presented with no accompanying background -- easily, dominates the central space and, indeed, the entire composition.

All right, we have to admit it.  Seekers has a soft spot for all those patterns based on studies of plants or shells.  While the specific botanical basis is in all probability lost by mid century, this small group of patterns, with their sense of the natural specimen, create a freshness difficult to equal. 

A note on attribution.  While there is debate over which Ridgway partnership produced "Asiatic Plants," the (occasional) presence of an impressed Ridgway mark  indicates production by either William Ridgway (1830-1854) or Ridgway, Morley, Wear and Co. (1836-1842).
