This salad size plate with the dark blue transfer view of Trenton Falls is part of the Enoch Wood and Sons series of American views designated among collectors as the "Circular Shell Border" series -- after the prominent arrangements of seashells decorating the flange of the plate. The center scene is a view of the nineteenth century upstate New York tourist destination. Note the three little sight-seers at the top of the falls.
Trenton Falls is actually the apex of a stretch of West Canada Creek -- which over a course of some four miles has managed to carve the landscape into picturesque ravines, creating fantastic limestone formations along the way. The falls constitute the grand finale as they tumble down 312 feet in a succession of cascades over the last two miles.
