In this brown transfer teapot, Thomas Mayer adds a bit of drama to the classical elements of his popular "Canova" pattern.  A prominent urn in the foreground introduces the viewer to a bay-side scene complete with distant view of classical buildings.  A bit of theatre is added by a troubadour seated at the base of the urn, who addresses a somewhat forlorn looking damsel.  A brief complementary scene decorates the lid with the urn and a distant sailboat, while a more abbreviated urn vignette decorates the base of the spout.  Elements of the standard "Canova" border are used to trim the balance of the pot, the foot, and collar of the lid.
