Whatever the form, pieces in Wedgwood's "Trophies" pattern are weighted down with a dense encrustration of intricate relief work. Deliciously heavy garlands of fruit are suspended from ram's head terminals and adorned with floating ribbons. The swags frame alternate tiny medallions in lilac and white (a beautiful complement to the light green ground) and detailed trophy groups. Additional ornamental borders of laurel and florets frame the main frieze top and bottom. For once at least, Wedgwood's classical restraint has been abandoned in favor of luxurious excess and celebration of virtuoso potting skill.
