A happy Robinson Crusoe is seen strolling along the beach (with one of his happy goats in attendance) in this view of "Crusoe Finding The Foot Prints." We have to point out that one's powers of observation must be as sharp as Robinson's to spot the footprint hidden next to some foliage in the lower right foreground. The view is offered on Brownhills mid size, seven inch plate. The pattern is executed in brown transfer contrasting with their ivory body and enhanced with yellow, blue and green enamels. The enamels are particularly effectively defining the land and sea -- and happy Crusoe's umbrella.

While the registry number on the reverse indicates 1887 introduction, the "England" notation indicates production after 1890.
The Robinson Crusoe story and its application on children's wares by Brownhills as well as Bailey & Ball is discussed in the "Seekers Journal" Featured Item for February 2012 (accessible through the link near the upper right corner of each page of this site.)
