A complex molded shape is underscored by a series of framed panels covering the vessels. Acanthus-like flourishes and simple masks decorate the panels in high English Gothic style. A smear glaze on the drab body highlights the undulating design. Though frequently referred to as drabware, this is a heavier stoneware body that Wedgwood somewhat confusingly called "drab porcelain" (of course, it is not true porcelain).

We find these shapes listed as early as the '1817' catalog. They underscore an ongoing English obsession for the Gothic starting as early as Horace Walpole's efforts with "Strawberry Hill" (1747-1792) and continuing through most of the 19th century.
