Brownhills "Turk" captures all of the exoticism of the near east in their representation of Turkey from their "Nations of the World" ABC series. The standard format fits the printed alphabet beside a circular vignette in the lower right quadrant, all executed in brown against a contrasting ivory body. This particular example is executed in a larger than usual size.
In the vignette, a sultan(?) takes a draw on his exotic pipe as he pauses beside a divan on which is perched one of the members of his harem, her slippers having dropped carelessly to the floor. Careful washes of blue, rose and yellow add to the rich sense of foreign fascination.
