Much of what we like about lustrewares of the 1830's can be found in a neat, compact form in this snappy little milk jug. A plain copper lustre ground gives way to two bands reserved for brilliantly contrasting brush stroke decorations in tones of pink lustre. The pink lustre band around the main body features nicely detailed versions of the traditional "house" pattern in three circular reserves, separated by floral devices. A second pink band around the neck features a simplified string of laurel. Molded details include shell ribbing at the base of the spout and a band of beading just below the rim. A wash of pink lustre at the interior rim finishes the jug.

It is tempting to attribute examples of this general jug shape to the large Staffordshire Enoch Wood factory. The curlique handle, however, differs from the handle shape associated with known Wood jugs of this shape. Still, the quality of workmanship is consistent with Wood's high standard.
