Adams "New York" view on this red transfer toddy plate can only be described as idyllic.  Two dreamers in the foreground pause by a fallen log to survey the distant 1820's cityscape. In front of them, a horseman travels the road leading down toward a busy bay where ships appear engaged in the business of commerce.

This small plate is finished with a fine filet band around the well of the plate while the flange is decorated with the signature Adams floral and shell motif border. 

Ellouise Baker Larsen, American Historical Views On Staffordshire China notes that this scene is derived from a drawing by J. Dupre engraved and printed by Fenner, Sears and Co., and published in 1831 by London publishers I.T. Hinton & Simpkin & Marshall.  Larsen notes that the view is similar to that produced by W. Guy Wall in his "New York from Weehawk."
