The three handled loving cup or tyg is a traditional folk form--handy for passing around a communal draught of ale. The revived form was made popular in the latter part of the nineteenth century by Doulton and other potters. The small size of this example demonstrates that by this era the appeal of the form was that of a decorative curio.
Between each of the flaring handles is a classical vignette in white relief against the light blue jasper dip surface. A flower form medallion has been placed underneath each handle. The straight sides remain unadorned except for a narrow band toward the bottom. Decorative relief further ornaments the handles.
